FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
The following are Frequently Asked Questions about “The Gate: Dawn of the Baha’i Faith” (referred to herein below as the “Film”).”
What is a screening license?
A screening license gives the buyer (“you”) the legal right to hold a public screening of the Film, when and if issued from the Film’s copyright owner with specific terms as to how the Film can be shown.
When you buy or rent a copy of the Film without a Community or Small Group screening license, you are granted a private screening license (i.e., for the your private personal use or with normal circle of your family and/or friends) However, please note that it is not legal to buy a copy of ANY film and hold a public screening (i.e., in a home or large group setting) without the permission of the owner of the film.
See the discussion about “Community Screening” and “Small Group Screening” licenses below.
What is the difference between a Small Group Screening and a Community Screening?
As used on our website, there is a difference between a “Community Screening” and a “Small Group Screening,” and the licenses for each vary.
A Small Group Screening is any screening to a group of 20 people or less. A Small Group Screening license provides the screening rights for one (1) such screening only.
A Community Screening is any screening open to the public, including in a classroom, at a library, in any group or community setting or at any space where a substantial number of persons outside of a normal circle of family and friends are gathered. A Community Screening license provides for the right to make one (1) public screening of the Film to a large public group of any size and four (4) Small Group Screenings. Alternatively, an additional Small Group Screening can be made in lieu of the large Community Screening.
With both options, you get to keep the Film and can watch it as much as you like in a private setting. Only the number of larger screenings (Small Group Screening or Community Screening) is limited.
Will the DVD stop working after a certain number of plays? How will you know how many times I screen it?
The DVD will not self-destruct or stop working after a certain number of uses. We have no way to detect how or where you play the film. Licenses granted for a Small Group Screening or a Community Screening are on the honor system and we ask you to respect the legal terms of the license provided, in accordance with applicable copyright law.
Why can’t I select my country when I am trying to purchase a screening license for the film?
Screenings outside the United States are subject to the permission of the National Spiritual Assembly (“NSA”) of each country. If you do not see your country listed here, it is because your NSA has either not yet considered the matter or has declined to have screenings.
You may notify your NSA that you are interested in screening the film. Please ask them to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to indicate whether this is permissible.
I just want to watch the film with a few people. Is that considered a Home Screening?
As noted above, you may order a personal copy of the film for watching in a private setting, either alone or with your normal family and a few friends, as many times as you wish. Licenses are required for Home Non-Private Screenings and Community Screenings only. We consider a Home Non-Private Screening a small event, 20 people or less outside of a normal group of family and friends. If such a screening is sponsored by your Local Spiritual Assembly (LSA) or another organization and includes such outside guests, then it is a Home Non-Private Screening.
My screening will not be held at a home but will be 20 people maximum. Is that considered a Small Group Screening or Community Screening?
This would be a “Small Group Screening” and you can purchase a Small Group Screening license in this scenario.
After my public screening(s), how can I use the DVD?
Rather than asking you to mail back the Film when you finish your public screenings, we are allowing you to keep the Film. However, we ask that you follow the law. Again, the law does not prevent you from private use of the DVD or Blu-Ray, but does prohibit the making and dissemination of copies either physical or on-line.

Do I have to tell you every time I screen the film?
You do not have to give us notice of every screening, but we do like to keep a record of the communities that have held screenings and the number taking place. We will post it to our screening schedule on our website, but do not have to include the address if it is not open to the public.
Can I sell DVDs at my screenings or Baha’i Center bookstore?

The Community Screening at $195.00 is a legal license for screenings of the film, planned with an invited audience and promoted to a public community, where the host has the option to charge for tickets.
How do I download the digital file after I purchase it? What if I did not receive it?
After you purchase the digital download, look for an email from The Gate. In that email you will see a VOD link to access the film that starts with https://thegate.vhx.tv/.
Click on that link or copy and paste it into a web browser. Then Click Start Watching. Under the video player you will see a Video Downloads button. Click that button and then click one of the file sizes listed. The larger the size selected, the higher the quality of the image, but the longer it will take to download. Can I share my digital copy of the Film with others? Can I post it to Facebook, YouTube or any website?
No, this is strictly prohibited.
Unlike loaning someone your personal DVD or Blu-Ray, sharing a digital file puts us at risk of piracy. It can result in sharing with an unlimited number of websites and with people who did not purchase the Film legally. It also risks that it will be posted on free sites, such as YouTube, without permission from the filmmakers.
How do I see the subtitles with the film if I ordered Download and Streaming.
While you can download the subtitles, it is unfortunately a difficult process to sync them with the film. As a result, subtitles are best watched while streaming the film. In the lower right of the screen there is a button for subtitles and closed captions. Click this button and it will show you the options. If you cannot stream the film, contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org

Why can’t I select my country when I am trying to purchase a personal copy of the film on DVD, BluRay or a digital version?
